Our very own PhDJ took a few minutes out of his hectic schedule of making, listening and playing sweet new music to tell us a bit about the Red Bull Music Academy and their rad video.

Hey peeps, just taking little lunch and stepping out from the office/studio/decks for a sec to have a bit of a brain share...

It's a well known fact that I love new music (making/listening/playing). Another well known fact is that I love partying. And another favourite past time of mine is travel... So back in 2009 when a rad/crazy/eccentric South African guy called Carel (who kinda reminded me of my future self) invited me to play at his festival called Oppikoppi - which he described as being just like a house party in the middle of the South African bush - I just had to go.

It was better than I imagined it!! Like an old fashioned bush-doof, hours away from civilization, full with 15,000 crazy, fun, high, music-loving people all coming together for one reason: the love of music.

One of the festival highlights each year (aside from the Purple Sneakers Official After Party of course) is the Red Bull Music Academy stage. As with anything that RBMA does it's all about new music and is rad as fuck!!

The above video, 'From Dust To Digital' follows South African DJ/producer Sibot in his preparation and lead up to Oppikoppi 2011. It also gives you a pretty good idea of the mayhem that takes place at the festival, and especially highlights the music.

Over the last couple of years at Oppi I've seen artists like Tumi And The Volume, Blk Jks, Haezer, P.H.Fat, Yesterday's Pupil, and Sibot (the subject of this Red Bull video).

Oppikoppi is honestly like no other place on earth, it's my favourite festival (and I've been to a lot: Roskilde, Glasto, Fuji, ATP, Reading etc). As a result I'm now planning my third pilgrimage to this annual event and am just working out exactly how many Australians I'm gonna be bringing with me this time around. Any takers?
