Smokin Joe Mekhael: Longest Ever DJ Set

It's not uncommon to notice something strange walking through Sydney's 'homeland-of-the bizzare'. Strip clubs, backpacker hostels and tourist bars make the area a very interesting place to be on a Friday night. Melbourne's equivalent to King's Cross (Kings Way) has been semi-cleaned-up over the last few years since a night-club shooting influenced a government crackdown on the area. For a Victorian who has only reached the legal drinking age in 2008 - King's Cross is a very weird place indeed.

It was a Friday night a couple of weeks ago that I noticed a huge banner hanging from The Empire Hotel advertising Smokin Joe Mekhael's Guinness World Record Attempt at the longest ever DJ set which at the time was set by a Brazilian DK King at 120hrs and 19mins. This insane stunt ended up going ahead as planned and on Thursday December 22nd Mekhael played his last track, smashing the previous mark at 132hrs and 30mins and receiving praise from dozens of popular music blogs as well as publications like the Sydney Morning Herald.

Guinness are still yet to grant authentication to the World Record.
