Live Review: VIDEO: The Ruminaters 'Deadstuff'

31 October 2011 | 4:40 pm | Staff Writer

The Ruminaters hail from Sydney's Northern Beaches, their video for 'Deadstuff' draws you in from the beginning. Keep your eye on them..

Hailing from Sydney's Northern Beaches, The Ruminaters ooze grungy, surf rock madness. According to their Facebook profile, their genre is "Beatnik barnyard hillbilly swamp rock", take from that what you will. What it all comes down to is... their music is seriously cool. These long-haired boys manage to make rocking it out with manic tunes and adorable dance moves seem effortless and easy. This is what indie rock is made of.

All of their tracks are full of boundless energy, and it's clear that they're always having fun. Though the frantic drums and guitar riffs sound like they could be in a shambles at any second, the tightly wound and oiled machine runs perfectly from start to end. They've had a bit of radio airplay recently, and Mr Richard Kingsmill offered them up a 5/5 on triple j Unearthed. Not too shabby, right?

And to the 'Deadstuff' video clip... right from the get-go, it's intriguing. The old school black and white camera, flickering shots of the band performance, and eventually you realise their only audience is made up of family members. Boy, can those parents dance. Proving their music can be loved by anyone, the group rock out for 4 minutes, only stopping for a quick beer.

The lyrics are hilariously random... well worth a close listen.

Keep an eye out for these guys... they're definitely going somewhere.
