24 May 2011 | 11:19 am | Staff Writer

Win Double Passes to Sydney Film Festival films Shut Up Little Man!, Life In A Day, Stake Land, Microphone, and Beats, Rhymes & Life.

From the 8th - 19th of June, Sydney Film Festival is showcasing a whole bunch of the best new films from all around the world.  Can't decide what to watch?  Lucky for you, we’re giving away double passes to the following five films....

‘SHUT UP LITTLE MAN! AN AUDIO MISADVENTURE’

Everyone loves eavesdropping on crazy neighbours, but back in 1987 two young punks from the American Midwest took it one step further.  After moving into a down-at-heel San Francisco apartment, they covertly recorded the vitriolic rants of their middle-aged alcoholic neighbours resulting in a cult phenomenon.   At times hilarious and disturbing, the documentary takes a look at the boundaries between privacy, art and exploitation.

‘STAKE LAND’

Vampires are all the rage at the moment, but there are no forbidden love stories in this pupil popping horror flick. The film follows teenage orphan Martin, and his vampire-slaying guardian Mister as they attempt to reach a safe haven from the vampire plague sweeping across America.

‘MICROPHONE’

In light of recent times in Egypt, this coming-of-age film explores the alternative scene of hip-hoppers, rooftop rockers, graffiti artists and filmmakers in Alexandria. Khaled, a local returning home after years spent abroad, becomes immersed in the cultural life of the city. The film follows his struggles to overcome the conservative forces at play in contemporary Egyptian society.

‘BEATS, RHYMES & LIFE: THE TRAVELS OF A TRIBE CALLED QUEST’

The film is a brutally honest testament and exploration of A Tribe Called Quest’s impact on the development of hip hop. With commentary from De La Soul, Large Professor, Pete Rock, Busta Rhymes and the Beastie Boys, the documentary examines an often overlooked politically progressive, and creatively fertile era in hip hop history.
