A Purple Sneakers Love Story – Peter & Vanessa

Purple Sneakers has always been a place where you can expect to meet some serious babes/dude babes, have a drink, dance, make out in a dark corner and maybe even exchange numbers. Many a relationship has blossomed within our club doors whether it be at The Abercrombie, The Gladstone or now at The Gaelic.

So when Peter Folwer posted a photo on our facebook page of his engagement that took place out the front of The Abercrombie - to the girl of his dreams - who he met at Sneakers…well we wanted to know more!

Peter met Vanessa on the 25^th May 2007, the date he remembers exactly because he was the designated driver. He was hanging with his best mate Ryan by the old entrance to the beer garden when he noticed Martin (PhDJ) talking to 3 young girls.  One of them was his soon to be fiancée’ and one an old door girl Alyssa. He admits he did notice Vanessa “but didn't think too much of it as there were always hot girls at Sneakers”.

Peter briefly spoke to Vanessa who was drunk in a “fun happy way” and told Alyssa her friend was pretty cute and asked if she was single etc.

Later on, Vanessa and her friends started playing this game, whenever guys would walk up the steps they would pat them on the head and then hide behind the bricks. Soon though, every dude that came up the stairs wanted to talk to her, so she would run over to Peter and hug him, saying to them “sorry I’m with my boyfriend, I just thought you were him”.

The best mate Ryan commented that Peter looked pretty into this cute girl and that he should “just go in for the pash". Peter, ever the gentleman, decided against it because he was both sober and did actually like the girl.

They kept talking and flirting throughout the night, “at one point The Cure’s song ‘Close to me’ came over the speakers. I asked Vanessa “who sings this?” just as the first beat kicked in, and she said straight away and very confidently, "THE CURE CLOSE TO ME DERRRR!" I thought wow, she likes the music here, this keeps getting better.”

Peter gave Alyssa his number to give to Vanessa. He was a bit shy but also by this stage Vanessa was “way too gone” and he was worried she wouldn't even remember him! She did. A message came through (Peter was waiting up for it) at 3am. The next day they arranged a date and the rest, as they say is history!

After a month of planning Peter proposed to Vanessa on May 13 2011 out the front of the Abercrombie - just as Ryan pulled up in his 65 mustang blaring The Cure’s ‘Close to me’.

She said YES.
